Meet Dr. Gihan Bareh: Honest, Compassionate Fertility Care

Get to know Dr. Gihan Bareh, a Loma Linda fertility specialist committed to honest guidance, compassionate care, and unwavering support for your journey.

As a fertility specialist, one of the most important parts of my job is helping patients understand their chances of success while never losing sight of the person sitting in front of me. Fertility treatment is deeply personal, and every conversation requires a balance of honesty, compassion, and hope.

Delivering Hope with Honesty

I believe patients deserve clear, realistic expectations. If I think a particular treatment has a lower chance of success, I explain why. If I believe another approach may offer a better opportunity, I discuss those options openly. My goal is never to take away hope, but to make sure we are making informed decisions together.

I always tell my patients, "I promise I will do everything I can to help you." That promise means I will use my knowledge, experience, and every appropriate medical option available to give them the best possible chance of achieving their dream of having a family.

At the same time, I never want patients to feel alone or discouraged. Fertility treatment can be emotionally exhausting, and it's easy to lose hope after setbacks. I work hard to support my patients through those difficult moments while reminding them that one unsuccessful cycle does not define their journey.

Knowing When to Keep Fighting

One of the questions I am often asked is, "Should we keep trying?" The answer is different for every patient.

If I believe there is still a reasonable chance of success, I encourage my patients not to give up too soon. Sometimes success comes after adjusting a treatment protocol, changing medications, performing additional testing, or simply giving the body another opportunity. Many pregnancies occur after patients have experienced previous disappointments.

However, I also believe in being honest. If we reach a point where the likelihood of success becomes extremely low, I will have that conversation with compassion and transparency. I never want patients to pursue treatments without understanding their realistic chances or to continue simply because they feel they have no other choice.

Walking Through Disappointment Together

Delivering a negative pregnancy test is one of the hardest parts of being a reproductive endocrinologist. Even after many years in practice, those moments never become routine. I know how much hope, courage, time, and sacrifice each treatment cycle represents.

Over the years, I've learned that while my patients need empathy, they also need guidance. In those difficult conversations, my responsibility is not only to acknowledge their heartbreak but also to help them see a path forward.

I encourage patients to give themselves permission to grieve, to avoid making major decisions while emotions are overwhelming, and to take a few days before discussing the next steps. Once they've had time to process, we meet again, review everything carefully, and decide together what the best path forward may be.

Never Losing Sight of the Goal

Infertility affects every part of a person's life — emotionally, physically, and often spiritually. No one should have to navigate that journey alone.

Whether your treatment is straightforward or more complex, my commitment remains the same: to provide honest medical advice, compassionate care, and unwavering support. I will celebrate every success with you, stand beside you through every setback, and always be truthful about your options.

Because behind every treatment plan is a person or couple hoping to build a family — and helping make that dream possible is both my privilege and my purpose.
